Abstract

Academia is a field that is rarely as diverse and inclusive as it should be. This comes at a serious detriment to the wellbeing and over all success of young people who identify with a minority group entering higher education. This essay analyses two fictional works - "Drinking Coffee Elsewhere" by ZZ Packer and "Americanah" by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie - that both offer the perspective of young Black women in colleges in the United States.
