Abstract

This is a found poem made from the words of black police brutality victims and the 14th ammendment. I wove them together to create a narrative story, and juxtaposed it against the 14th ammendment to show the expectation vs the reality of the law, how it fails to live up to its goal and true purpose. Through this poem, I wanted to convey the anxiety and fear that accompany black people  when it comes to the police, to the justice system, to articulate how terrifying being Black in America can be through these victims' last words. The stages of grief are visible through their words, and it's harrowing to write and read these last words, people forsaken by the institutuions meant to preserve their rights.
